Hypertonic Saline for Sinus Infections

  1. To make up solution, boil one quart of water;

  2. Add 2 tablespoons salt (non-iodized, no preservatives) and 1 tablespoon baking soda.

  3. You may use a bulb syringe or regular syringe for the irrigations.

  4. Irrigate 2-3 times daily, leaning over a sink.

  5. Some patients have used a “Water-Pic” device with great success.

  6. After each use, flush a small amount of rubbing alcohol through the syringe and allow it to dry completely.

  7. Make a new salt solution at least once a week and store in a bottle which has been rinsed in boiling water.
